“Bisti” meaning ‘a large area of shale hills’; “De-Na-Zin” meaning ‘cranes’ (from the Navajo language).
The Bisti series translates my experience of the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness of New Mexico. I felt calm and at peace there. My soul sang and I cried. I wanted this mini series to reflect the ethereal, other world-ness of its hills and strange rock formations. I created the contours of each small landscape either from memory or whilst listening to audio I took on my visit.
